Gregor Zed
Whats your nickname?
Unfortunately nothing that stuck, but my good homies call me Gig, and my dad used to call me Rafiki… lol
What month is your birthday?
October
Goofy or Regular?
Regular
What are your current side projects or passions?
Way too many:) - Always steady tinkering on side projects. I love to paint and make music, and build stuff. Lately I have been spending lots of time learning to craft wooden surfboards. I love custom design/carpentry oriented projects. I am about to graduate from an Architectural Technology program so I can pursue more design and carpentry work.
How many years have you been snowboarding?
20+ at this point! I’m so grateful to have parents who got me into it —they got me this plastic board with little foot straps that you slide your winter boots into — Sliding around on that thing is one of my earliest memories.
What´s your home mountain?
Wentworth - Small family hill in Nova Scotia
What’s the reason you keep snowboarding?
I’ve gone through so many phases of it, and at this point I keep doing it because it feels incredible and every year it seems to become more enjoyable. I’m grateful to have such a solid circle of homies to share that with.
What does your L1 set up look like this year (what jacket and pants and colorway)?
I have been rocking with the ‘Aftershock’ pant in the Black colour, and the ‘Parton’ jacket in ‘Bombay’ orange colour. Both are very comfy, technically sound, and most importantly, look really good.
Do you like the cinched pant leg cuffs on the L1 pants?
Sometimes — I like L1´s very minimal cinch (either round elastic, or small band, not a huge fan of the wider bands)
How has your snowboarding evolved the last few years?
After retiring from competitive boarding, I started to lean more into street boarding, spending each winter trying to film movies with all the Calgary crews. (BLP, SRD, Upper Management)
What movies or edits can we see you in this season and where can we see it?
Last year I filmed a video with the SRD crew. That flick is called “Magic Trick” - filmed by Matt Bryson and Jj Wesbury
This year I worked on a part for the king snow video that will be coming out this fall. I’m very excited for that - gonna be such a good showing of street boarders from all over Canada.
In what way do you want to give back or express yourself within snowboarding?
I want to give back by playing a role in the community as a boarder as well as friend to many — I love sharing this passion with so many people, and all the relationships that it has fostered are greatly appreciated. Activities like snowboarding become safe havens for people and even just continuing to do it, and encouraging other people to do it year after year, is a contribution.
Who are the people in snowboarding right now that keep you motivated and hyped on the current stat of snowboarding community and/or direction?
Most importantly all my friends in the Canadian scene - shoutout to everyone pushing themselves. One of the earliest favourites I had though was Joe Sexton. He has always been huge inspiration for me and am so excited any time I get to see his footage. I think with any sport I’m coming to most appreciate the people who have really been in there grinding the 10+ years.
Whats your favorite thing about L1 Premium Goods?
Insane attention to detail and quality — and the amount of progression and evolution each year. L1 is a dynamic brand that is really seeking to produce high quality soft goods that respond to the consumer. I think it’s paying off and it shows in the product.
