Christy Prior
How many years have you been snowboarding?
16 years
What´s your home mountain?
Cardrona, NZ.
Was this the first mountain you started snowboarding at?
Mt Hutt, NZ.
What´s the reason you started snowboarding?
A friend convinced me to give it a go when I was 17.
What was your l1 set up this season?
Prowler jacket, Lovecat Jacket and Pants, and Heartbreaker pants.
In what way do you want to give back or express yourself within snowboarding?
Take a step back from the back-to-back contest circuit and really enjoy the lifestyle that is snowboarding and all that that encapsulates. For me that is; experience new places and new terrain, mini park (always), and share my experience of this with others via snowboard yoga retreats, social content and collaborating with sponsors/events with similar vibes.
You have been really getting into Yoga the last years, whats your reason for this?
I actually started snowboarding and doing yoga around the same time, 14 years ago. I have found that they complement each other so nicely and I truly believe I would not have been able to maintain a high level of snowboarding for so long without my yoga practice behind the scenes.
Also what is it about Yoga and how you live your off snow life that balances your snow life?
Yoga and meditation have enhanced my journey inwards. In snowboarding, it has made me more aware of my body and how it moves in space and greater awareness to how I feel so I can better manage my time and energy, helping me know when it's time to push and when it's time to pull back.
Similarly, through introspection I have gained the skills to objectively observe the fluctuations of the mind, how it works and how it habitually reacts. With these understandings, I am able to then act on my values and move towards what is important to me, rather than shrinking back into the shadows of fear, doubt and desire.
Tell me a little more about your current Yoga situation - @yogawithchristyprior ?
@yogawithchristyprior is my creative outlet for my practice. It will also be my main channel for information on upcoming retreats, classes and events I have in the works.
Who are the people in snowboarding and yoga right now that you are inspired by and keep you motivated to keep involved with the community and just boarding?
I'm inspired by anyone who follows their own heart rather than succumbing to what that think they're supposed to do, what their peers are doing, or what they think is cool. Realness is whatsup.
What is your favorite thing about L1?
Style. Fit. The Snowblind Kit!
